Progress

30.10.2020 (Week 10)

We started to do the brand guide in week 10. Below is the progress.

I worked on the grid, navigation bar and placement of elements.

06.11.2020 (Week 11)

After receiving feedback from Mr Vinod, I made some changes. The logos should have color except for the black and white version. Below are the changes. I changed the placement of the elements and also used color logos.

13.11.2020 (Week 12)

I continued working on the brand guide and added some full bleed images to break the monotony.

Mr Vinod said that we have to illustrate how the typeface is used, so I added the business card and invoice to show the use of typefaces.

I also made a few more full bleed images.

3. FEEDBACK

30.10.2020 (Week 10)

General feedback:
Brand guide:
Size: desktop, landscape (1024*768 px)
1. Foreword (introduction)
2. Logo (slowly introduce) - black and white logo, give it space on the first introduction, followed by information from project 2 of BCI
Try Adobe PDF (Interactive) when you are free. For now we are using EPUB. When checking the functions, we have to export to EPUB and open in browser.
Buttons: if you want to try different things on your buttons, use a NEW BUTTON if not you might mess with the coding of your original buttons
Navigation:
home, next page, previous page, chapters
Font size: Body text 16pt, Subtext 12-14pt (depends on the typeface you are using)

Specific feedback: -

06.11.2020 (Week 11)

General feedback:
Navigation bar: Home & Content buttons are to be different buttons.
If your image / color blocks the navbar, make 2 master pages OR 1 - group the whole navbar in master page, 2 - on the selected page, [Ctrl+Shift+ click nav panel] to move it and bring to edit.

Break the flow with a picture / larger text / one word values / colour.
Can explain about the images used: e.g. black and white picture with 10% yellow tint to enhance the identity.
No need to worry about plagiarism at the moment because Mr Vinod is focusing on the design and not the text.
Can explain the corporate colors in CMYK, RGB, pantone.

For a new brand which is still growing, sometimes do not make too many restrictions otherwise it will be too rigid. Instead, we should allow room for growth and experimentation for the new brand.

Rebranding -  to change the perception of the consumers (the brand is there for a long time and might become stale)
Specific feedback:
Home and content are 2 buttons, home leads to cover page, content leads to content page. Alignment of the text and image.

Specific feedback: -

13.11.2020 (Week 12)

General feedback:
In order to break the monotony, we are asked to include some images of applications (illustrate the usage) where it fits the context. Try adding interactive buttons such as pop out text & / image.

Specific feedback:
Include each section's label somewhere on the page so the reader knows which section he or she is reading. Can try putting at the top but not too near from the edge.

20.11.2020 (Week 13)

General feedback:
When exporting the JPG / PNG that includes text, make sure that it is at least 300 dpi. Otherwise, the text will be pixelated. Alternatively, we can place the Illustrator file directly into InDesign.
Interactivity: Rollovers are very important for the reader immersion. Pop out images can also be used to show the viewer the close-up of letterhead / invoice (small text).
Navigation: Bookmark pages first, then only "go to navigation" NOT "go to page".
Process of designing the brand guide: 1. Layout 2. Navigation. 3. Interactivity

Specific feedback:
If I already have an off white background, I do not need to place the black border around the letterhead and business card already. These are the small details that matter.

4. REFLECTION

It is important to apply the knowledge learnt from brand corporate identity and publishing design. The steps of making the brand guide is determining the grids, navigation and interactivity. When designing the book, we must remember that we are designing for people to understand the brand. We must clearly state or explain what we are showing them. Additionally, for interactivity, we must remember to make sure that the buttons are far apart from one another because we have to consider people using their finger to press the button on the screen. Rollovers are very important because it shows people that it is a button. Pop up tabs or captions also increase interactivity. Breaking the monotony by introducing full bleed images can help to prevent people from getting bored.

This video teaches how to create buttons to show and hide PDF captions. It is very helpful and informative as it increases the interactivity in the interactive PDF.
