They were not approved, as the design has to be formal. It was because business transactions will be done through the stationeries. After receiving feedback from Mr Vinod, I made amendments.

23.10.2020 (Week 9)

Attempt 2:

I did a few variations of the business card.

3. FEEDBACK

16.10.2020 (Week 8)

General feedback:
Grids system has to be used. It is essential in your branding. Never use Photoshop to design the stationeries. The legal name of the company has to be on the letterhead (XXXX XXXXX Sdn. Bhd.) with the company number. For envelope design, we have to use the dieline. For the business card, the front and back has to use the same logo option, not one primary and one secondary. The patterns have to be light and subtle, using secondary colors.

Specific feedback:
The color palette is not usable, so the stationeries do not work. They are not supposed to be decorative. Avoid using icons to state the details such as phone, email, address and website. The ratio you place information has to be similar throughout the stationeries.

23.10.2020 (Week 9)

General feedback:
Be a crazy designer!!! A good logo represents the big idea behind it. The big idea is central. A designer has to be good in presenting the idea (selling the idea). There must be a good story in the presentation (as what Mr Vinod has shown us on how to present). Process is important. There is always a typographical way to solve a problem.
Envelope: the envelope is usually white so that it can be machine sorted. Otherwise, it has to undergo manual sorting which is more costly. For the inside of the envelope, leave a 5mm white border for gluing purposes.
Business card: avoid having your logo at the front / back only and separating it with the information. The back of card doesn't necessarily be a pattern, it can also be a single color or typographical design. Avoid having a border near the edges, it's because the cutting process will not be 100% accurate.
Social media: choose 2, Facebook and Instagram are preferred. Profile picture, banner and dummy posts (patterns, pictures)
Environmental graphics: show the office entrance (wall), office environment

Specific feedback:
Business card: the email can be slighlty kerned more
The bold title of my name can be kerned more so that it doesn't look out of place
The '+' for phone numbers can be chosen to be not in alignment with the other text (use ctrl+shift+t)
Back of card: I can try making some parts of the box lighter /  darker
Letterhead: Increase the number of columns to solve the problem of the company info being too far away from the right of the page.

Invoice: Try using the same typeface for headings and subtitles. Save space by trying to move information on the page.

30.10.2020 (Week 10)

General feedback:
Brand guide:
introduce the brand (values, profile etc), then the logo
For brand guide, include responsive logo if possible (size on phone, tablet, desktop etc).
Most important: GRID & NAVIGATION
Can add interesting layouts like opening picture for each chapter or something similar

Specific feedback:
Stationery set: ok, remember to prepare a blank and a sample for letterhead, continuation sheet and invoice.
Collateral:
Overall: Be more playful and fun in this process, because you are giving it away for free to people. Make them want to keep the collateral. No need to be serious like the stationery set because there is no business transaction here. There is no need for the entire logo of the brand to be on each collateral (especially environmental graphics). Make some graphics which have similar style to my logo (rounded), such as star, smiley face etc. Use images as well, make sure that the style is all the same (color).
Shirt and badge: The front looks like a logo, take note of that. Try using images, can make it greyscale then add a tint / hue of color (primary/secondary colors).
Tote bag: The tote bag works.
Pen & Book: Book can be more playful and fun, no need to be so serious.
Environmental graphics:
1: No need to have the pattern at the back. Can use the pattern in other wall / panels of the office. Move the entire graphic up higher, because the tagline will be blocked when people are sitting there.
2: No need to include the logo in every place, because it is a workspace. Try using the secondary color options or maybe lines for it. (Including the logo in every environmental graphic is boring)

06.11.2020 (Week 11)

General feedback:
Conversion is very important for your collateral. Have empathy and think of the customer's journey from collateral to website/ application. 1. What is Post Rate? - Show the tagline 2. How do I get to know more? - show the website

Specific feedback:
Collateral:
Shirt: The graphic has to be relevant to the application. Try not to make it too broad, so people can connect back to your product by looking at the shirt. Try to use graphical elements.
Book: The background image is fibre optics which might bring the meaning of telecommunication services. Try something more direct such as community or rate.
Badge: The badge is ok, make more of them, minimum 4 so they have a choice to choose from.
Tote bag: Include the tagline and website.

13.11.2020 (Week 12)

General feedback: -

Specific feedback:
Include more variations for the pin badges. For the shirt model, do something like a person in the office.

20.11.2020 (Week 13)

General feedback:
Include a flat lay to showcase all the collateral. For submission in blog, combine all of project 3 into one PDF and place at the end.

4. REFLECTION

16.10.2020 (Week 8) - 13.11.2020 (Week 12)

Through the process, I've learnt that the stationeries have to be more formal and can't be playful. That is because business transactions use the stationeries. However, when doing the collateral, I can make it fun because these are items that are going to be given away for free (in my case). Additionally, I also learnt about conversion, which is how the collateral will lead the viewer to my business. Eg. My tote bag has the logo in front, and the website at the back. This way, people are able to navigate to the business and bring in volume. The design of the collateral does not have to include the logo in every one of them, otherwise it will be too boring and monotonous. It is important to have fun and gain the interest of people with the collateral.

Finding mock up files that suit my brand was also not easy, so I had to look from many sources to filter what I need. I have made many changes to the collateral, which makes this part of the project tough for me. In the future, I will plan well before executing my projects.

Merchandise branding furthers brand recognition. It also makes buyers / receivers feel like they are part of the brands they love. It gives a company a direct connection to its fans. Branding is the process of communicating to the world who you are. It is the action of making deliberate design choices to show the company's brand identity to prospective buyers, vendors, investors, business partners and competitors. Effective branding means clearly defining the company's position within the industry and creating something the target audience responds to.
