2. INSTRUCTIONS

Exercises

24.08.2020 (Week 1)

For box design, we had to choose 2 loose items (items without packaging) to design boxes for. I chose a bottle of masking fluid and a cloth face mask.

Fig 1.5 masking fluid

Fig 1.6  masking fluid

Details:
Price: RM28
Material: Glass
Product details can be seen on the left and front (window on left and front)

Fig 1.7 cloth face mask

Details:
Price: RM15
Material: Cloth
Product pattern / color has to be displayed when placed in packaging

After taking down the measurements and details of the items, I proceeded with thinking of box designs. I found some inspiration online, which are as below.

For the masking fluid, I decided to make a box which has a window on the left and front face of the product. Such as the image below.

The shape and size will definitely be changed to fit the product well. I also got the inspiration of the  neck lock for bottles.

For the mask, I wanted to do a sliding box.

I proceeded with the sketches.

I proceeded to make the dieline in Adobe Illustrator.

I continued to do my mock up at home with normal 80gsm A4 paper.

After creating the mock ups for both items, I realized that there were a few problems. I did some changes.

07.09.2020 (Week 3)

We had physical class because we needed to use the laser cut studio.

Exercise 2: Playing Cards Design

We were to design a set of playing cards with a style. I chose my style to be vintage style and the theme is musical instruments.

3. FEEDBACK

24.08.2020 (Week 1)

Mr Shamsul approved of my 2 loose items.

31.08.2020 (Week 2)

After looking at my box dieline, I can proceed making the mock ups.

07.09.2020 (Week 3)

After laser cutting the masking fluid box, Mr Shamsul suggested that I make the neck lock deeper. I should also change my material to a harder cardboard.

14.09.2020 (Week 4)

The illustration has to incorporate something that shows the king, queen, jack and joker instead of just plain illustration.

28.09.2020 (Week 6)

The card box and back of card pattern can be made to monotone, so that it is not too striking.
