Week 1 (17.04.2020)

Favourite Stop-motion videos:

Fig 4.1 Negative Space

I could not forget the video the first time I watched it. I liked the message given through this video. Although it is not in a straight forward way, it tells us that me must spend time with our loved ones more, or else we will be like the character which does not possess feelings for his father.

Fig 4.2 Lost & Found

This story is about two knitted friends. As the dinosaur tries to save the other despite obstacles, which leads to its "death", it shows true friendship. After being saved, the fox tries to knit friend back to life. The fox is determined to save its friend which saved it previously. It is a very touching story for me.

Fig 4.3 Baby Snake

This video is more comedic and lively as it is talking about a boy who thought that his worm was a snake. It then tells the story of how he goes through life with his worm and he slowly develops a bond with the worm.

Choose 3 PSA topics:
PSA topics list: PSA list
  1. Water conservation
  2. Adopt-A-Pet
  3. Verbal abuse
Others (just in case): Noise pollution, Mental health

Week 4 (08.05.2020)

Story for stop-motion video:

Art direction: paper cut, clay

The story is about an injured dog getting abandoned in a shelter and adopted by a kind lady. The theme of the story is adopt-a-pet.

Act 1:
Once upon a time, there was a dog named Angel.
It lived a happy life with its owner named Lucy.
Until one day, it got hit by car. It lost her eyes.

Act 2:
Because of this, its owner gave up on it and left it outside an adoption center
Because it missed its owner a lot, every day, it was hoping for its owner to come get it back.
It would be excited whenever it heard footsteps. Months passed but no one even took a glance at it.

Act 3:
Until one day, a lady saw it in the adoption center and adopted it immediately.
And ever since then, it was cared for very well and it lived a happy life with its new owner.

The moral of the story is that we should care for our pets until the end of their lives. Pets aren’t toys as they have emotions and souls as well. They are not objects or items that can just be disposed whenever they are not wanted.

Week 11 (26.06.2020)

We were to do a stop motion trial shoot of just one shot from the stop motion, and show Mr Martin and discuss if there were any problems faced. I did one shot of the dog wagging its tail.

Fig 4.9 dog wagging tail (gif)
Problems I faced: My clay dog was too heavy in certain parts (head and body), so the legs could not support the body and the head was falling out. The size of the dog is also too big (about the size of my palm), so I will have not enough clay if I maintain that size.

Changes I made: made the dog smaller. Although the body parts were easy to break off, they were still workable.

Week 12 (03.07.2020)

First draft of my stop motion without sound: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R_ERUVNW6ts
Feedback: The last frame is blurred so it is weird. Mr Martin suggested that I change that scene to another scene where the man and dog are bonding.

2nd draft with changed ending scene: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=46pVTwv2jg8

3rd draft with sound: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-JHjmdfo7DA
Feedback: Visuals are ok. Add sound effects when the man is going to hit the dog. The music is too soft.

4th draft (added color correction): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xLGlPhoJ8hw
Feedback: The music is too loud. The ambient sound from the start suddenly disappears when change scene to dog.

5th draft: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uIWRvTPSCME
Feedback: The credits can be shortened. The sound is ok.
